It appears the author wanted to caution people against just going out and picketing your office or home based solely upon the list. So within the context of the statement, "direct action" does not likely mean anything illegal.
Your aspprehension implies that you feel guilty about your sexual orientation. What you people really should feel guilty about is the fact that so many of you politicize and weaponize it. You guys try to re-define marriage, to re-define the Boy Scouts, to implant homosexual embassies on 3,577 of our high school campuses, to force us to go beyond merely tolerating you and actually celebrate you.
